Tri-Sigma Sorority Elon University

The women of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority have been introduced to this orphanage and the situation that these children are in has touched their hearts.  Members of my sorority have donated over $1,500 in the first year, and we are planning many events in the spring to raise awareness of the cycle of the Red Light District and how important it is to sponsor these children.  Members of my sorority have sponsored individual children as pen pals, and written them encouraging letters with a picture of themselves.  Because of the interest my sisters have taken to the Home of Hope, the Boys’ Home, and the Red Light village, we have added on these sectors to Tri Sigma’s philanthropy, which is based around Children’s Play Therapy.  It is our pride to focus on children, where Child Play Therapy includes visits to the UNC Chapel Hill playroom where our sisters can play with terminally ill children.  We have a school in Kenya we support called the Inkoisuk Primary school, to sponsor the children in their education.  In the spring, we have a plan for all the fraternities and sororities on Elon’s campus to be able to sponsor children, and also have bake sales and sell trinkets as a way of fundraising. We will then bring all the donations collected to India for spring break, and divide the money among our projects. Two of my sisters Hadley Stecker and Paige Host have selflessly volunteered to come along to the South of India to work in these orphanages with my mom, sister and me, and to make a difference in not only the lives of the children but their own.  More to come with plans for the future :)
